Henry Wilkes died from unspecified causes on 21st April, 1915, while serving with the Royal Field Artillery in France but it is not known if he died from wounds or from illness, both of which took their toll of the men on the Western Front. 15 Brigade of the Royal Field Artillery was part of 5th Division which in April, 1915 were involved in the fighting associated with the Second Battle of Ypres but strangely he is commemorated on the La Ferte-sous-Jouarre memorial to the missing which is not near Ypres and commemorates men killed in the early months of the war, mainly August and September of 1914. |
